"Logansteno: Bought a VW?" (logansteno)

People losing their shit over a new model in an automaker's lineup doesn't match the automaker's "Style" or whatever.
The only reason I bring this up is because some people seem to be absolutely losing their shit that the new Discovery Sport is called Discovery because it's too crossover like for the name, or whatever other BS excuse they can come up with to make a totally justifiable, entry-level crossover for Land Rover that will probably sell in droves seem unjustifiable.
It's 2015, not 1995. Land Rover cannot rely solely on selling big, hulking SUVs with 2 chassis and an engine from the 70s. That's not how things are, people want these little luxury crossovers more than I want a '69 Camaro RS/SS (which is a lot) and LR needs to oblige if they want to A) make money, and B) remain relevant in today's automotive world. Damn near everyone today sells one or more crossovers, I can't say I blame LR for wanting in on that cash cow.
In other news, the Discovery Sport and my mom's Fusion are very similar under the skin.

inb4 someone mentions the Aston Cygnet, which I'll still defend to the grave as completely fine and unobtrusive the history of Aston Martin or its name.

Wasn't that strange little thing essentially what kept Aston's total emissions thing or whatever the US Govt. calls it low enough for them to keep selling cars here?

What Ontop said. There's some question as to whether it even worked well or not, but I really don't care; it was a fairly inventive way of trying to skirt the kind of regulations that shouldn't mean anything to low-volume manufacturers anyway.

Oh right. The problem here is crash tests.

We do have the iQ that is was based on, so I don't think crash test results were it either.

I actually think the Disco Sport is handsome.
People will need to get used to the 'Sport' bit making a model difference.
Subaru Outback and Outback Sport are likewise, two very different models... although now Subaru calls Outback Sport as XV Crosstrek, instead. ;-)
for LR/RR in 5-door, I would go Disco Sport over Rangey Evoque 5-door, and I would get a Range Rover Sport before getting the traditional Disco. I still wish they had built the Range Rover Range Stormer 3-door version of what later became the Range Rover Sport.
The Evoque 3-door is still pretty cool, though, too, aside from the bunker gunslit visibility. A mini-Range Stormer without storming levels of performance... but rumored to perhaps be getting some soon.

Not the Cygnet/IQ. The actual sports cars had side impact weakness or something.

Those, they sell. The dealership is about 5 minutes from my house.

I think there was some law or something that was gonna get passed they didn't meet but the law didn't get through. Don't remember the story very well.

And then 5 years later a new "new" model comes out, everybody hates it, and the previous one was amazing and the best thing ever. Like the E9# series M3.
